we're not all for pyrotechnics
the 4th of july fireworks display was never truly a part of our families festivities. sure, i went when i was a kid because it was the thing all my friends were doing. so each time independence day rolls around, i always ask the fam, specifically my mom, if we're going to watch fireworks this year. a prime example of her loathe towards watching exploding tubes of fire and color, her response:
"we can just watch them on tv."
sarcastically, "thanks mom, you're wrecking my childhood."
"i heard they put on a good show in washington d.c. and i'm sure that's televised."
alas, i spent my night glued to the tv watching red white and blue explode over the washington monument, so that was last year.
this year, Tristin and Isolde was interrupted by the booming. i peeked out of the shutter of our basement window just as the finale was going on (you can tell because the booms get more frequent) i saw a peek of a shower of red over the tops of the trees. my one firework for the 4th of july.
"mom, just so you don't feel bad, i saw one firework from the window last night."
"good, i'm not wrecking your childhood then."
"i guess not."
